About 3rd Place Works
We at Third Place Works believe that by supporting those who manage and operate coworking spaces, we can cultivate environments where individuals and businesses thrive together, making coworking spaces essential hubs for creativity, collaboration, and personal well-being.
What is a “Third Place”?
The concept of a “third place” comes from sociology and describes social settings that are distinct from home and work, where individuals can engage with their community.
American sociologist Ray Oldenburg introduced this term, emphasizing the need for a communal space between home and the workplace.
Third places are informal and neutral areas where people can relax and enjoy each other’s company. These spaces can be physical, like parks, libraries, and coffee shops, or virtual, like chat rooms and group messages.
The factor which sets a coworking space apart from a leased office and gives it a sense of community is this sense of being a third place.
